§ 131A.355 Intergovernmental agreements

When police or other government agencies seize property or money through forfeiture, they have to divide up the proceeds fairly. If more than one agency worked together on the case, they can set up a formal agreement to decide how to split the money or property.

These agreements are allowed under a separate Oregon law that covers deals between government agencies. However, the agreement can't break the rules set out in the Oregon Constitution about how forfeiture money must be used. In short, agencies can work out their own arrangements for sharing forfeiture proceeds, but those arrangements still have to follow the state's constitutional limits on where that money can go.
