§ 133.495 Retention of property to answer order of court

When police seize property or sell it during a criminal case, the money or items don't just disappear. They get held onto so the court can use them later, depending on how the case turns out.

If the property was taken to secure a debt or claim (a lien), it stays under that hold unless the person gets it back by posting bond. Either way, the property or money stays available so the judge can make a fair decision about it once the trial for the arrested person is finished.

In simple terms, this rule makes sure seized property and sale proceeds are kept safe and ready, so the court can order what happens to them after the case is decided.
