§ 135.085 Subpoenaing witnesses

If you're the defendant or the district attorney in a preliminary hearing, you can ask the magistrate (the judge handling this part of the case) to issue subpoenas for witnesses. A subpoena is a court order that requires someone to show up and testify. As long as the witness is located somewhere in Oregon, the magistrate will issue the subpoena when asked.

There's a limit on how many witnesses you can call without extra steps. If you want to subpoena more than five witnesses, you can't just request them the normal way. Instead, you have to follow the special process laid out in ORS 136.570, which likely requires you to explain why you need that many witnesses.
