§ 135.727 Description of animal

If someone is charged with a crime that involves harming or taking an animal, the criminal charges don't need to describe the animal in a lot of detail. Prosecutors can simply use the common name for the type of animal involved, like "dog," "cow," or "horse."

This means the charging document doesn't have to include the animal's breed, age, color, or any other specific details to be considered valid. As long as it names the general class of animal involved, that description is good enough to meet the legal requirements for the case to move forward.
