§ 136.300 Time limit on appeals to circuit court

If someone is arrested and held in custody while waiting on an appeal from a municipal court or justice court case, the law sets a clock on how long that wait can last. Once the person files notice that they're appealing, the circuit court has to hear that appeal within 60 days.

This rule exists to protect people who are sitting in jail while their case works through the appeals process. It stops the system from dragging its feet and keeping someone locked up for months without a hearing. If you're in custody and you've filed your appeal, you should have your day in court within two months.
