§ 136.637 Short title

This section simply gives an official name to a group of related laws. Oregon has a set of rules, found in ORS 136.623 through 136.637, that deal with getting witnesses from other states to come testify in Oregon criminal cases. This particular law says that whole group of rules can be called the "Uniform Act to Secure the Attendance of Witnesses from Without a State in Criminal Proceedings."

This naming rule does not create any new legal requirements on its own. It just gives people, lawyers, and courts a short, official way to refer to the broader set of witness rules instead of listing out all the individual statute numbers every time. Many states have adopted similar versions of this uniform act, so having a common name also makes it easier to talk about the law across different states.
