§ 137.838 Oregon Public Safety Fund

This rule creates a special fund called the Oregon Public Safety Fund, which is kept separate from the state's General Fund. The money in this fund is set aside specifically for the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission to use for certain public safety programs described in other parts of the law.

The money in this fund is "continuously appropriated," which means the Commission doesn't need to ask for new permission each year to spend it. As long as the money is in the fund, the Commission can use it for its intended purpose.

Starting July 1, 2026, the rule will expand slightly. Right now, the money can only be used for one specific program under ORS 137.835. After that date, the fund can also be used for a program described in ORS 137.830, which deals with additional public safety grants. Any leftover money from an older, now-closed grant program will also be moved into this fund once the new rules take effect.
