§ 138.275 Notice to parties concerning modified judgment or order or supplemental judgment

When someone appeals a criminal case, the trial court sometimes sends a new or changed judgment or order to the appeals court while the appeal is still going on. This could be a corrected judgment, an updated judgment, an extra judgment, or a fixed version of an order that can be appealed.

If this happens, the appeals court has to tell both sides about it. That means the prosecutor's lawyer and the defendant's lawyer both get notified. If the defendant doesn't have a lawyer, the court tells the defendant directly.

This rule makes sure nobody gets left out of the loop while their case is being appealed. Both sides need to know if the judgment or order they're dealing with has changed, so they can respond to it properly and aren't caught off guard later in the process.
