§ 142.030 Rights and authority conferred by order of delivery

Here's what this rule means in plain terms.

When a court gives an order to return property, it lets the owner (or someone acting for the owner) ask the officer holding the property to hand it back. The officer who has the property is then allowed to give it back to the owner because of this order.

However, this order only deals with getting the property back from police custody. It does not decide who actually owns the property or settle any disputes between other people who might also claim rights to it. If someone else believes they have a legal claim to the same property, this order does not take away or affect that person's rights. They would still need to resolve that issue separately, through other legal steps.
