§ 144.015 Confirmation by Senate

When the governor picks someone to serve on the State Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision, that choice usually cannot become final on its own. The Oregon Senate has to review and approve the appointment first. This approval process follows the same steps used for other state appointments, as spelled out in separate Oregon laws (ORS 171.562 and 171.565).

There is one exception to this rule. If the appointment falls under a specific part of the law (ORS 144.005 (2)(b)), it does not need Senate approval. Outside of that exception, anyone appointed to the board must go through the Senate confirmation process before they can officially serve in that role.
