§ 144.075 Payment of expenses of returning violators of parole or post-prison supervision, conditional pardon or commutation

If someone breaks the rules of their parole, post-prison supervision, or a conditional pardon or commutation, they sometimes need to be brought back into custody. This might mean bringing them back from another state or location. This rule explains who pays for that process.

The cost of returning these violators to the Department of Corrections comes from state money that lawmakers set aside ahead of time. Every two years, the state budgets funds specifically to cover these kinds of transportation costs. So when someone violates their release conditions and needs to be picked up and brought back into custody, the state uses this pre approved budget to pay for it.

This rule does not change any rules about who counts as a violator or what happens to them legally. It only deals with the practical question of covering the cost of bringing them back.
