§ 144.104 Supervisory authority; revising conditions

When someone gets out of prison, they don't just walk away free. They go into a period called post-prison supervision, and someone has to watch over them during that time. This job usually falls to the Department of Corrections or another agency assigned to supervise them.

While a person is on this supervision, the supervising agency can change how closely they watch that person based on how they're doing. If the person is following the rules and doing well, supervision might get lighter. If they're struggling or causing problems, supervision might get stricter.

The supervising agency can also suggest changes to the specific conditions someone must follow. These recommendations go to the State Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision, which has the final say on approving changes. This means the rules someone lives under after prison aren't fixed forever. They can shift depending on how that person acts once they're back in the community.
