§ 147.255 Recovery of moneys paid on fraudulent claims; recovery of fees

If someone gets money from a victim compensation claim by lying or committing fraud, the Department of Justice can take legal action to get that money back. This means the state has the power to sue people who cheat the system and collect awards they weren't entitled to.

The rule also protects crime victims from being overcharged by lawyers or agents who help them file claims. If a lawyer or agent charges fees that break the rules under ORS 147.315, the Department of Justice can sue on the victim's behalf to get that money back. This means victims don't have to fight these battles alone. The state can step in and recover fees that were wrongly taken from them.
