§ 147.325 Compensation not subject to assignment or legal process prior to receipt by beneficiary

If you're eligible to receive compensation under this set of Oregon laws, that money is protected until you actually get it in hand. Before it's paid out, no one can take it from you through legal action. This means creditors can't garnish it, courts can't attach it, and it can't be seized to pay off debts.

This protection even covers child support and alimony orders. So if someone owes back support payments, they still can't reach this compensation before you actually receive it. Once the money is in your hands, though, these protections no longer apply, and normal collection rules can take over.

The purpose of this rule is simple. It makes sure that people who are supposed to get this compensation actually receive it, without other parties stepping in first and taking it away through legal claims or court orders.
