§ 147.385 Training program for victim assistance program employees

The Oregon Department of Justice was required to create a training program by January 1, 2025. This training is for people who work in victim assistance programs at district attorney offices. The goal is to teach these workers how to better help victims of bias crimes, which are crimes committed because of a person's race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected traits.

This rule does not directly affect victims or defendants in a case. Instead, it makes sure the staff who support victims have proper training. This means victims of bias crimes should get more informed and helpful support when they work with victim assistance staff during their case.
