§ 40.515 Rule 903. Subscribing witness’ testimony unnecessary

If you have a written document that was signed in front of a witness, you don't need to bring that witness to court to prove the document is real. This is true even if someone signed the document as an official witness to it.

There's one exception. If the laws that control whether the document is valid say a witness must testify, then you do need that witness. This usually only comes up with certain special legal documents where the law has strict rules about how they must be proven, like some wills or contracts from other places. But for most everyday documents, you can prove they're authentic another way, without dragging the original witness into court.
