Rule 2.2 Avoiding Misuse of the Prestige of Office

Judges cannot use their position to get special treatment or perks for themselves or anyone else. Their title and authority are meant for doing their job in court, not for personal gain or favors outside of it.

There is one exception. A judge can write or give a reference about someone's character or abilities, but only if the judge actually knows that person well enough to speak honestly about them. This might come up if a judge is asked to vouch for a former colleague or someone they know personally, like in a job application or a background check.

The main idea behind this rule is trust. People expect judges to treat everyone fairly and not use their power to help themselves or their friends get ahead. This rule makes sure that trust stays intact.
