Rule 13.240 Judgment on Award

When an arbitrator makes a decision in a case, both sides get a chance to ask for a new trial if they disagree with the outcome. This is called a "trial de novo." But there's a time limit for making that request, set by Oregon law.

If nobody asks for a new trial before that deadline passes, the arbitrator's decision becomes final. At that point, someone needs to write up a judgment that matches what the arbitrator decided. That judgment then gets sent to the court so a judge can officially enter it into the case record.

In simple terms, this rule just explains what happens next if no one challenges the arbitrator's ruling in time. The case doesn't just sit there. Someone has to turn the arbitration award into an actual court judgment, and the court has to formally approve and record it.
