Rule 7.040 Notify Court of Settlements and Other Matters

If you settle your case or resolve an issue that's scheduled to be heard in court, you need to tell the court right away. This applies to any matter on the court's docket, whether it's the whole case or just one part of it.

Don't wait until the last minute or let the scheduled hearing happen if the issue is already resolved. Courts have busy schedules, and letting them know quickly frees up that time for other cases. It also saves everyone, including you, from showing up for a hearing that doesn't need to happen anymore.

This is a simple but important step. If you reach an agreement with the other side, pick up the phone or file the right paperwork to let the court know as soon as possible.
