Rule 1738 Substitution of Security

If you put up security (like a bond or deposit) when you filed your appeal, you are allowed to swap it out for a different type of security. You do not have to keep the same security for the entire appeal.

To make this change, you go to the clerk of the lower court (the court where your case started). The clerk will let you withdraw your original security and replace it with new security, as long as the new security meets the same requirements as the old one. A judge could order something different, but normally the clerk handles this without any special permission needed.
