Rule 1940.1 Applicability of Rules to Mediation

When parents go to court over child custody in Pennsylvania, a judge may send them to mediation. Mediation is a process where a neutral person helps both parents try to reach an agreement without going to trial.

The rules in this section apply to two situations: when a court has set up its own custody mediation program, and when a judge orders a specific family to try mediation in their case. Either way, the same rules govern how that mediation works.
