Plain-English Summary (for reference only — not a substitute for the rule text above)
This summary is not the rule. The rule text controls.
When you sign a confession of judgment, you are giving someone else permission to take a legal judgment against you without going to court first. The prothonotary, which is the court clerk who handles civil records, will record that judgment based exactly on what the confession document says.
This means the judgment gets entered automatically. The person you owe money to does not need to file a lawsuit or give you advance notice. The clerk simply follows the terms you already agreed to in the confession document.
