Rule Text

The Supreme Court shall prescribe the content and format of forms required by these rules. The use of the forms as prescribed is mandatory.

If you're filing certain court documents in a South Carolina civil case, you often can't just write them up however you want. The Supreme Court decides exactly what these forms should look like and what information goes on them, and you have to use the official version.

This means if a form exists for what you're trying to file, you're required to use it. You can't create your own version or skip parts of it. Using the correct, official form helps keep paperwork consistent across all civil cases in the state, so courts, lawyers, and everyone else involved know what to expect and where to find key information.

If you're not sure whether a form is required for your situation, it's worth checking with the court clerk or looking up the official South Carolina court forms before you file anything.

Note:

This Rule 84 preserves the forms required under present Circuit Court Rule 10 (Security for Costs), 93 (Juror Summons), and 94 (Juror Information); and provides forms for Judgments as required by Rules 54 and 58 of these Rules. As indicated by these rules, additional material may be inserted in the standard forms of Judgment, but as a minimum must follow the forms.

Note to 1986 Amendment:

This amendment permits the Supreme Court to prescribe the forms by administrative order rather than the more cumbersome process of amending procedural rules.
