Rule 22 Amendments to Rules

Here's what this rule means. If the South Carolina Bar wants to change these fee dispute rules, the change has to go through two steps. First, the Bar's House of Delegates has to approve it. Then the South Carolina Supreme Court has to approve it too.

Once the Supreme Court signs off on a change, it doesn't apply to every case right away. It only applies to fee disputes that get filed after the date the Supreme Court approves the change. So if you filed your fee dispute before an amendment was approved, your case follows the older version of the rules, not the new one.

This matters because it means the rules you're dealing with depend on when you filed your dispute, not on what version of the rules currently exists. If you're not sure which version applies to your situation, check the filing date of your case against the approval date of any rule changes.
