Rule 120 Entering Appearance

If you are being sued, you do not always need to wait to be formally served with court papers. You can show up to court yourself, with a lawyer, or send someone you authorize to speak for you, and simply tell the court you are there and ready to participate in the case.

When you do this, the judge writes it down in the court records. This counts the same as if you had been officially served with legal papers. Showing up and entering your appearance means the case can move forward without any issues about whether you were properly notified.
