Rule 136 Demand Reduced by Payments

If you sue someone for a large amount of money, but they pay you enough during the case to bring the remaining amount below what the court is allowed to handle, the person you sued gets to recover their court costs from you.

This basically means you could end up paying the other side's legal costs if payments reduce your claim too low for that court. It is a good reason to think carefully about which court you file in and whether partial payments might affect your case.
