Rule 237 Appearance Day

When you are sued in Texas and served with court papers, you will be given a deadline to respond. That deadline is called your "appearance day."

If your deadline falls during an active court session (called "term time"), that exact date is your appearance day. If your deadline falls during a court vacation period when court is not in session, you still need to respond by that deadline, but your official appearance day becomes the first day of the next court session.

The main thing to know is that you must respond by the date listed in your court papers, no matter when it falls. Missing that deadline can hurt your case.
