Rule 291 Form of Verdict

When a jury gives its verdict, it does not have to follow a specific format or use exact legal wording. As long as the verdict clearly covers what it needs to cover, minor errors in how it is written will not cause a judge to throw out the verdict or overturn the judgment.

This protects the outcome of a trial from being undone over small technical mistakes. Courts look at whether the verdict gets the job done, not whether every word is perfectly written.
