Rule 33 Suits by or Against Counties

When a county, city, town, or village goes to court, it must use its official legal name. For example, a lawsuit would name "Travis County" or "City of Austin" rather than listing individual officials or departments.

This works both ways. If you are suing a local government, you name the government itself. If the government is suing you, it must also use its proper official name in the court documents.
