Rule 815 Substantive Rights Unaffected

The rules about how to handle a civil court case are only about the steps and procedures people must follow. They do not give anyone new legal rights or take away any rights they already have.

For example, if you have the right to sue someone for a certain reason under Texas law, these rules do not change that. And if you do not have that right, following the court's procedures will not create it for you.
