Art. 2B.0101 DEFINITIONS

This part of the law sets up basic definitions used for police body camera rules. A "body worn camera" is any device an officer wears, whether attached to their clothing or built into glasses, that can record or send video or audio to be recorded somewhere else.

The terms "officer" and "peace officer" mean the same thing they mean under a separate part of Texas law that covers law enforcement licensing (Occupations Code Section 1701.001). This keeps the definition consistent across different Texas laws.

Finally, "private space" means anywhere a person would reasonably expect privacy. A person's home is the clearest example. This definition matters because other rules in this section may limit when and how officers can record in places like this.
