Art. 30.07 JUSTICE DISQUALIFIED

When a justice of the peace can't handle a criminal case because of a conflict of interest or other disqualifying reason, they can't just drop it. They have to hand it off to another justice of the peace in the same county who doesn't have that conflict.

This keeps the case moving forward instead of getting stuck. It also protects the people involved by making sure a judge without a personal stake or bias is the one deciding the case. The new justice of the peace who takes over must be someone in the same county who is legally able to hear the matter.
