Art. 62.062 LIMITATION ON NEWSPAPER PUBLICATION

If someone is required to register as a sex offender only because of things that happened in juvenile court, the local police or sheriff's department usually cannot put their name or information in a newspaper, magazine, or similar publication. This protects young people whose only record involves juvenile delinquency findings, not adult criminal convictions.

There is one exception to this protection. If another specific rule, Article 62.056, requires or allows the notice to be published, then law enforcement can still publish it even if the person's registration is based only on juvenile court findings.

In short, this rule limits when police can publicize someone's registration in print media when that registration comes only from their juvenile record. It gives young offenders some privacy protection, but that protection has a specific legal exception built in.
