Art. 7.08 FAILURE TO GIVE BOND

If someone charged with a crime cannot post the bail bond that the court set, they will be held in jail. This rule says that jail time can last up to one year, starting from the date the court first ordered the bond.

This means the clock starts running from that first order, not from any later date. If the person still cannot pay the bond after being in jail, they could stay locked up for the full year while waiting for their case to move forward. This rule shows why posting bond quickly matters, since failing to do so can lead to a long stay in jail before the case is even resolved.
