Plain-English Summary (for reference only — not a substitute for the rule text above)
This summary is not the rule. The rule text controls.
If someone breaks a condition of their bond, there are consequences. The court can take away the bond money, which means the person loses whatever they put up to get out of jail. The court can also hold the person in contempt, which comes with a fine and possible jail time as set out in Texas Government Code Section 21.002(c).
The court doesn't have to pick just one punishment. It can forfeit the bond and impose the contempt fine and jail time at the same time. This means breaking a bond condition can end up costing a person their bond money and land them back in custody with an added fine.
