Art. 7B.008 APPLICATION OF OTHER LAW

If a protective order gets issued under this set of rules, most of the standard rules that normally apply to family violence protective orders in Texas will still apply here too. Basically, the court doesn't need a whole separate set of instructions for how these orders work day to day. It just borrows the rules already laid out in the Family Code, unless this specific subchapter says something different.

For someone dealing with a protective order, this means the usual procedures you'd expect, like how the order is enforced, how long it lasts, or what happens if someone violates it, generally follow the same path as other family violence protective orders. The only exceptions are situations where this particular subchapter spells out its own special rule. When that happens, the specific rule here takes priority over the general Family Code rule.
