Rule 409 Offers to Pay Medical and Similar Expenses

If someone offers to pay your medical bills after an accident, that offer cannot be used against them in court to show they were at fault. For example, if a driver who hit you says "I'll cover your hospital bills," you cannot bring that up later as proof they caused the crash.

This rule exists to encourage people to help others after an accident without fear that their generosity will be used against them. Without this protection, people might refuse to help with medical costs just to avoid looking guilty in court.
