Rule 12 Docketing of the Appeal.

When someone files a notice of appeal, a petition, or another document that starts a case at the Supreme Court, the Clerk's office takes action right away. The Clerk puts the case on the official court docket, which is the record that tracks the case from start to finish.

After the case is docketed, the Clerk must let everyone who was involved in the lower court case know that the appeal has officially begun. This means all parties get notice that the case is now active at the Supreme Court level.
