Rule 6-2 Motions for Extension of Time

If you want more time to do something in your case, like file a document by a deadline, you need to ask the court for an extension. This rule explains what your written request must include.

First, you have to tell the court that you talked to the other side about your request. Let the court know whether they agree with your request, object to it, or if you tried hard to reach them but couldn't get an answer. You need to make a real effort to contact the other party before asking the court for more time.

Second, you have to tell the court how many times you've already asked for an extension for this same deadline. This helps the judge see if you're asking for extra time for the first time or if this is a repeated request. Courts want to know this because they keep an eye on cases that get delayed too many times.
