Rule 71 Enforcing Relief For or Against a Nonparty

If a court order gives benefits to someone who isn't officially part of the lawsuit, or if that order needs to be enforced against someone who isn't a party, the court treats that person the same way it would treat an actual party in the case. This means the same rules and steps apply to them.

In practical terms, this rule protects people who are affected by a court order even though they weren't originally involved in the lawsuit. For example, if a judge orders a company to do something and that order also affects an outside person or business, that outside person can use the normal enforcement process to make sure the order is followed. The same goes if someone needs to enforce the order against a person who wasn't originally named in the case.

This keeps things fair. Nobody gets special treatment just because they weren't listed as a plaintiff or defendant from the start. The rule makes sure that court orders can actually be carried out, even when they reach beyond the original people in the lawsuit.
