Rule 53 Photography, Broadcasting, Recording, and Other Disclosures

Cameras and broadcasting equipment are not allowed in the courtroom while court is in session. This means no one can take pictures or film during a trial or hearing, and the proceedings cannot be broadcast live from the courtroom.

There are some exceptions to this rule. If a specific law allows it, if another court rule permits it, or if the court has an established policy allowing cameras or recording, then it may be permitted. Without one of these exceptions, the judge must keep cameras and broadcasting out of the courtroom.

This rule exists to protect the fairness of court proceedings. It helps prevent distractions, protects witnesses and jurors from feeling pressured or exposed, and keeps the focus on the case itself rather than on media coverage.
