If someone sues the wrong person or too many people, the whole case doesn't get thrown out just because of that mistake. The court can fix the problem by adding or removing people from the lawsuit as needed.
Either side can ask the court to make this change, or the judge can decide to do it on their own. The court will set fair terms for how this happens, no matter what stage the case is at. This means you don't have to start over from scratch just because someone was named incorrectly or left out.
The rule also lets the court split up claims and handle them separately if that makes more sense. So if a case involves multiple parties or issues, the judge can break it into smaller pieces and deal with each one on its own. This helps keep cases organized and moving forward, even when there are mistakes about who should be involved.
