Rule 10-1-401 Management of criminal law and motion calendars

If you have a criminal case in Utah's Fourth District Court and need to bring a motion before the judge, there's a deadline you have to meet. You must turn in proof that the other side was properly notified (called the "return of service") to the court clerk by 5:00 p.m., at least two working days before your case is scheduled to be heard.

This deadline exists so the court can keep its calendar organized and make sure everyone involved knows what cases are coming up. If you miss this deadline, your matter may not get called on the date you wanted, since the clerk needs time to process the paperwork and get it properly entered into the court's docket.

In simple terms: don't wait until the last minute. Get your proof of service filed with the clerk at least two full working days before your court date, and do it before 5:00 p.m. on that day.
