Standard 2(Q) Avoidance of facial expression, body language, or statements suggesting bias or

prejudice Expressions of bias or prejudice by a judge are prohibited. Such expressions cast reasonable doubt on the judge’s capacity to act impartially as a judge. Facial expression and body language, in addition to oral communication, can give to parties or lawyers in the proceeding, jurors, and the public, an appearance of judicial bias. A judge must be alert to avoid behavior that may reasonably call into question the judge’s independence, impartiality, integrity, and competence.
