Rule 2 One Form of Action

Washington State courts use a single, unified system for civil cases. No matter what kind of civil dispute you have, whether it involves money, property, contracts, or something else, it all goes through the same type of court case called a "civil action."

This means you do not need to worry about filing the wrong "type" of lawsuit. In the past, courts had many different categories of lawsuits with different rules for each. Now everything is grouped under one simple label.
