The parties can also agree to change other discovery rules to fit their needs. For example, they might agree to give each other more time to answer questions or hand over documents. This kind of flexibility can save time and avoid unnecessary trips to court.

There is one important limit. If the parties want to push back a deadline and that change would affect the trial date, a scheduled hearing, or the overall discovery deadline, they need to get the judge's approval first. This keeps the case moving forward on schedule and stops delays from piling up without the court knowing about it.
