Rule 17 Termination of emergency protective order

If you get an emergency protective order in a domestic violence case, it doesn't last forever. It's meant to hold things over until the court can make a longer-term decision.

Once the court holds a full hearing and either grants a regular domestic violence protective order or denies one, the emergency order automatically ends. You don't need to take any extra steps to cancel it. The new order (or the denial) simply takes its place.

This means the emergency order is just a temporary bridge. It protects you right after you first ask for help, but the court's later decision is what actually determines what happens next.
