Rule 46 Immunity

Mediators and the people who screen cases before mediation are protected from lawsuits over the work they do in that role. They have the same legal protection as a family court judge.

This means if someone is unhappy with how a mediation session went or how a premediation screening was handled, they generally cannot sue the mediator or screener personally for actions taken while doing their job. This protection exists so mediators and screeners can do their work honestly and make necessary decisions without fear of being dragged into a lawsuit for doing their job properly. It helps keep the mediation process fair and independent, similar to how judges are protected so they can make rulings without worrying about being personally sued by someone who disagrees with their decision.
