Rule 7.19 Transfer of Credit

Judges in West Virginia have to complete continuing education to keep up with their legal training. This rule lets a judge move extra education credits from one set of rules to another. Specifically, credits earned under the regular Mandatory Continuing Legal Education rules can count toward the judge's separate judicial education requirements.

This only works if the credits were earned within the same reporting period, and the judge needs approval from the Administrative Director first. In simple terms, this rule stops judges from having to duplicate their training. If they already earned qualifying credits for one program, they can apply those same credits to meet the judicial rules, as long as the timing and approval requirements are met.
