Rule 15.01 Application

This rule explains when electronic filing applies in West Virginia circuit courts. It mainly covers cases that have been sent to the Mass Litigation Panel, which handles large groups of related lawsuits known as mass litigation. If a case is part of this kind of litigation, the people involved will typically file and serve documents electronically instead of using paper.

The rule also points to another section, Rule 15.02(c), for more details on how this process works. Even though the rule focuses on mass litigation cases right now, it does not rule out using electronic filing in other types of cases in the future. So courts may expand this system later to cover more kinds of lawsuits.
